Lead in onion exports extends slightly further

October 31, 2024 - Jurphaas Lugtenburg

The Dutch onion export has picked up again, as shown by the latest figures. Compared to last season, the lead in exports is further expanded.

In week 41, 34,256 tons of onions were exported, according to the latest figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. That is nearly 5,000 tons more than the export in week 40. In total, 358,218 tons of onions have now been exported this season. Last year at this time, the tally was at 350,940 tons. The lead over last season is likely to increase further in the coming week. October and November were not the best export months last year.

In the list of largest buyers, there are no major changes this week. Senegal is the largest buyer of Dutch onions with 6,972 tons. Ivory Coast follows closely with 6,719 tons. In third place is not Great Britain but Mauritania with 2,301 tons. The British are in fourth place with 2,202 tons. In total, 82 different countries bought Dutch onions.
