The zigzag movement in the onion export, where good and bad were alternated, has been broken. After the reasonably good export in week 41, the 38,000 mark was passed for the first time this season in week 42.
In week 42, 38,300 tons of onions crossed the border, according to the figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. The five-year average for this week is 33,858 tons, and in the same week last year, 24,426 tons of onions were exported. In total, 396,588 tons have been exported this season. The export compared to last season has increased by 21,000 tons.
Senegal was by far the most important destination for Dutch onions with 8,411 tons. Ivory Coast also had a good market share with an import of 6,251 tons. Mali ranks third with 2,399 tons. Eleven countries imported more than 1,000 tons of onions, five of which imported more than 2,000 tons. In total, Dutch onions were sent to 87 different countries.
