For the first time this season, the weekly figure of onion exports exceeds 20,000 tons. Two important African countries are on the market and it shows. Senegal and Ivory Coast account for more than half of Dutch onion exports.
In week 32, Dutch exporters exported 24,685 onions, according to the figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. Last season this week it was 15,424 tons and the five-year average stands at 22,710 tons. In total, 90,331 tons have been exported this season. That is almost the same as last season up to week 32, when the total was 92,532 tons.
The largest recipient of onions from the Netherlands was Senegal with 6,893 tons. Ivory Coast followed closely with 5,771 tons. Great Britain followed at a distance, importing 1,907 tons of onions from the Netherlands.
