Good but not spectacular, that was the summary of the onion export figures so far. The most recent export figure shows a break with that trend. For the second week in a row, the weekly export increases by 7,000 tons.
In week 37, 37,135 tons of onions were exported according to the figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. This is almost 10,000 tons more than in the same week last year. The five-year average for week 37 is 34,301 tons. In total, 226,214 tons of onions have been exported this season. The deficit we had last season compared to the previous season has now turned into a lead of 1,000 tons.
Senegal in the lead
Senegal imported 10,237 tons of onions from the Netherlands, making it by far the largest buyer. The onions on the boat for that country seem to be divided between week 36 and 37. Ivory Coast follows at a considerable distance with a still significant 4,049 tons. Great Britain imported 2,469 tons closely followed by Nicaragua with 2,441 tons. In total, Dutch onions were sent to 83 different countries. Egypt is at the bottom of the list with an import of exactly 5 kilograms of onions.
