September 5, 2024 - Klaas van der Horst

The Dutch milk supply almost returned to the level of 2020 last year, reaching 14 billion kilograms. In the intervening years, production was slightly lower. This is reported by ZuivelNL in the latest edition of 'Dairy in Numbers'.

The import of milk decreased, while the export increased significantly. Starting with the latter: according to figures from ZuivelNL, 784 million kilograms of raw milk were sold across the border last year. That is almost 270 million kilograms more than in 2022, the previous year.

The volume of imported milk was significantly lower last year than in 2022. In total, 1.056 billion kilograms of milk were imported into the Netherlands in 2023. That was about 200 million kilograms less than in 2022. The majority of the imported milk came from Germany. Last year, it was almost 727 million kilograms. The second country of origin was Belgium, with almost 308 million liters of milk. The import from other member states was negligible in size.
