No bottom yet for Dutch piglet price

June 3, 2024 - Wouter Baan

The Dutch piglet price does not find a bottom this week, despite many traders often seeing one.

The DCA BestPigletPrice decreases again this week by €0.50, bringing it to €71.50 per piglet. About half of the contributors were in favor of an unchanged listing, but the other half argued for a reduction, and that group slightly prevails.

The demand for piglets is still subdued, despite the relatively limited supply. Sometimes there are groups that are more difficult to market, but often the genetics or group size is not ideal to find a buyer for.

It is expected that the piglet price will find a bottom within a reasonable time. Especially if the pig prices start to rise, although there is currently no concrete reason for this.
