The onion export is picking up again in the most recent export figures. Great Britain is and remains a major customer, but there are also quite a few onions being sent to distant destinations.
In week 17, 19,228 tons of onions were exported, according to the figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. This is a little over 3,000 tons more than in week 16 and more than 3,000 tons above the five-year average for week 17. Bit by bit, the export backlog compared to last season is also getting smaller. However, there is still a significant gap with a total of 941,166 tons so far this season compared to 1,041,478 tons last season.
Great Britain is once again the largest importer of Dutch onions this week with 2,871 tons. Guinea is in second place, importing 2,099 tons. Behind them is Brazil, which imported 1,502 tons of onions from the Netherlands. Ivory Coast is also actively participating and is also found in the top 10.
